Art Classes

Classes for Adults and Teens

The Art Classes schedule is now available for May through July 2018. The following classes will be held in the Oneida Nation Arts Program cottage at 1270 Packerland Dr. in Green Bay, WI, 54304. Registration takes place at the Oneida Community Education Center (CEC). For more info: call the Central Registration Desk in the CEC at (920) 490-5260.

  • Plein Air Painting on the Rezplein air painting class
    Capture the awakening of color and the warmth of spring by painting the Rez. Short demonstrations will begin each session benefiting the beginner as well as the advanced student. Participants will learn how to paint clouds, trees, water and flowers. Basic supplies are included in the class fee; however, you may want to bring a chair. Each week you will be painting at a different location. If it’s raining, you will be painting indoors. Meet in the Arts Program cottage. Info 920-496-5260 or 920-490-3830

  • Two Needle Beading Techniquetwo needle beading technique
    Students will learn the two-needle beading technique, and will make a beaded barrette. Students must have experience with basic sewing by hand and good eye-hand coordination. The fee includes all materials and supplies to make the barrette. Info 920-496-5260 or 920-490-3830

  • Basket Making: Tray/Organizerchase weaving basket
    Students will learn to weave a 9” x 12” rectangular basket, that can be used for as a serving tray or an organizer basket. This class is open to all skill levels from beginner to advanced basket makers. Beginner students will learn to weave a basket with open areas for handles. Advanced students will have additional options for embellishments or other features to add to their baskets. Fee includes all material and supplies. Info 920-496-5260 or 920-490-3830

  • Porcupine Quill Workshop I quilll earrings
    Learn about Quillwork from cleaning, sorting and sizing quills for various projects, to types of stitching for quillwork applique or earrings, and dying quills in various colors. Prerequisite: Students must have experience in basic sewing by hand, beadwork or jewelry-making, strong manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination. Anyone with arthritic hands may not be capable of doing quillwork. Students will be around boiling water, a Dremel saw demo, and will use small hand tools, glover needles, sinew, needle-nosed pliers, tongs, and hot water bottles in this workshop. Community Art Activities

Oneida Basket Guild: Twatashe’nutslu:níhe

The Oneida Basket Guild holds monthly meetings on the 3rd Wednesday of the month from September through May. The guild is for novices and experienced basket weavers. Monthly meetings are held September through May. There is a short business meeting and a basket project at each monthly meeting. The guild also meets in the Parish Hall to complete baskets and for special workshops. The Parish Hall is located at 2936 Freedom Rd (aka Cty Rd. E) in Oneida, WI 54155, across the road from the Holy Apostles Church. Visit the Guild’s Facebook page , or call Ty Peebles at (920) 784-9651.

Regular Dates: Guild meets on the 1st Wednesday of each month from 5:00-8:00pm for open workshop; and the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 5:30-8:30pm for special classes and workshops.
Annual Fee: $30 (Cash, check, credit card, money orders)

Rush basketmaker Rosie Farey will teach students all the techniques required to make a small square checkweave basket on a mold. Bulrush is very soft and supple making it an ideal material for beginners.
