Coding Specialist Training Program – Online
EQUIP Your Workforce
Are you a detail-oriented person with a passion for procedure? Are you interested in translating those interests into a career in the medical field? Coding specialists help healthcare facilities review and analyze health records to identify diagnosis and procedure codes for insurance and Medicare reimbursement. In other words, coding specialists help generate revenue, so talented specialists are in high demand. In fact, sites like CareerBuilder rank medical billing and coding among the careers with the best outlook!
The program prepares you for the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) examination through AHIMA and the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential through AAPC. Best of all, no previous coding experience is needed to enroll. Anyone with a high school diploma or GED equivalency is welcome.
Admission Requirements: Students must have a high school diploma or GED equivalency to enroll and must successfully complete the Introduction to Online Learning course.
Required Textbooks/Materials: Textbooks are required on a course-by-course basis and are listed by course code (ex. XHIM 511). Click on the link for the TTC Bookstore website; choose ‘BUY’ at the top of the page>choose ‘ConEd Bookstore’ from the Search by Course dropdown menu>highlight the course ‘Department,’ ‘Course,’ and ‘Section’>your required book will then load. You must have the same book as your instructor in order to complete assignments and take quizzes/tests. The books listed on the TTC website are the only acceptable texts. Book costs are not included in course fees. Students in the Charleston area may purchase books at the Main Campus Bookstore, Bldg 950. You may also call the campus bookstore at 843-574-6578. Distance students may order books (shipped from the campus bookstore). Please make sure you know your course code when ordering books online. If you order books from any other source please make sure the ISBN number matches the book listed on the TTC Bookstore website.
Time/Location: Courses are offered online only. In the program’s final externships course, onsite externships are available in Charleston for local students. Virtual externships are available for distance students. Click on D2L on the top of the page to log into your online classroom.
Cost: Costs are listed on a by-course basis. Simply register and pay for each course as you take it. The cost for the full program is approximately $4,000 (most courses cost $285). *Books not included in course fees.
Curriculum: A TTC certificate of completion is awarded to individuals who successfully complete every course.
Note: The full program duration is typically 15 months. If you wish to finish more quickly, consider taking Introduction to Online Learning, Anatomy and Physiology and Medical Terminology together, followed by Pharmacology and Human Diseases together. To finish in 12 months, follow the previous statement, then take two courses at a time in Term 2 and 3, except the CPT Part II and the Externship classes are taken separately. Part-time students may take one course at a time. All courses must be successfully completed within 3 years.
Student Testimonial: “This is my first time taking any online courses. I am pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to access the necessary materials and educational content via the Internet. It is great that the professors are available to assist you along the way. I love the fact that you are given deadlines for assignments but are able to work at your own pace within those parameters. I definitely will continue to pursue my CCA and then CCS career at TTC!”
